Human Concerns Events
“Finding Abundance Through the Open Doors of Our Hearts” is the name of the newly finished Open Door Café mural that was blessed by Bishop Jeff Haines and the community on February 2. Please stop by 831 N. Van Buren to see the mural during regular business hours or on your next visit to the Open Door Café. The Cathedral is offering notecards with these images from the mural as a fundraiser. Please contact Shelly Roder at 414/276-9814 x 308 to place your order. Commemorative bookmarks with an image from the mural plus a new “Prayer for the Open Door Café” are also available in the parish office.
Art in the Café
“Community Murals to Inspire the Heart and Soul” is the name of the exhibit of Tia Richardson’s other murals from around Milwaukee. This exhibit will be on display in the Café until early May 2018, with all prints and canvases for sale. Tia will be donating 20% of the sales from this exhibit back to the Open Door Café – so consider buying local art as a gift to yourself or a friend!
Come explore your creative side with the ODC community! Visual art classes available Thursdays, February 15 and 22 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm; Fridays, February 16 – March 23 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm for women only. Writing Classes on the theme “Lenten Valentine” on Wednesdays, Feb 14, 21 and 28 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. All classes in the Café and all are welcome.
CRS Rice Bowl 2018: Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowls are available for the Lenten season at all entrances to the Cathedral. Inside the Rice Bowl, which are used to collect Lenten Almsgiving to benefit CRS’ anti-hunger work locally and around the globe, you will find a calendar of Lenten activities, suggested recipes and stories from places CRS works around the world. Return the Rice Bowls in the collection baskets before Easter for the Cathedral to collect and turn in as a parish.
Contemplative Prayer for Reconciliation and the Healing of Racism
Each Friday from 12:15 – 12:45 pm, join others at the Cathedral (or in solidarity wherever you are) to prayerfully commit to the healing of racism – in ourselves, in our community and in the structures in which we live and work. There will be no prayer service on Friday, March 16 and Friday, March 30, 2018. To sign up for a weekly prayer/reflection too, please use this link: https://tinyurl.com/healracism
Each second Sunday of the month is Sharing Sunday. In addition to our generosity to the Open Door Cafe and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Human Concerns Commission publishes a bulletin insert highlighting activities and people associated with this area of ministry.
