Today, the International Day of Peace, is officially the last day of summer. Time for us to take a deep breath and be grateful for the beauty of this world – lush meadows, lively wildflowers, warm nights, and shimmering stars in the clear, dark night.
August’s Stars include a pair of hard-working, dedicated volunteers Phyllis and Gil.
As remembered by fellow veteran volunteer, Joan W:
“Phyl and Gil served faithfully for 13 years at the Open Door Cafe. They started serving soon after the lunches began inside where the Cafe is now. They quickly befriended some guests while bringing treats: candy, magazines and clothes. Gil is remembered for joking around, looking for buttermilk, while Phyllis served food.”
Keith, Cafe Manager adds, “We miss Phyllis and Gil on Thursdays – they can never be replaced and will always be remembered.”
Phyllis and Gil had to stop serving in August 2015 due to health reasons, but one year later, we wanted to recognize their service and assure them of our appreciation for their many years of service and their continued support, love and prayers.
Thanks, Phyllis and Gil for being a bright light in our community!
