Liturgical Ministries:
Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word Leader

In September 2008, the Cathedral began offering Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 9:30 AM Mass. Following are Questions and Answers regarding this liturgy.

What is Children's Liturgy of the Word?

It is the Liturgy of the Word suitably adapted to make it relevant to the lives and experiences of young children. It gives them the opportunity to understand the Gospel message and participate in the Eucharistic celebration at their own level.

Where does it take place?

The children celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in the Day Chapel. The leader and helper(s) are responsible for preparing the chapel and making sure that everything is in the right place before the beginning of Mass, and for rearranging the Chapel if necessary.

When does it take place?

The children should be present at the beginning of the Mass until the end of the Introductory Rites, when the priest invites them to leave for their own celebration. They are brought back into the assembly immediately after the Prayers of the Faithful by the leader.

Who leads the Liturgy of the Word for Children?

Catechists will lead the children's liturgy. Actually, all that is required to lead is a desire to help children take a more active part in the celebration of their faith. Training is available for teenagers and adults. All leaders must submit to a background check and participate in Archdiocesan Safeguarding All God's Children training.

How does one become a leader for the Liturgy of the Word for Children?

If you would be interested in serving as a leader, contact Scott Eakins, Director of Liturgy at 414/276-9814, ext 3117 or by « email ».
