Outreach Ministries


Human Concerns Commission

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, as a place of healing, acts in solidarity with the poor and marginalized, promotes human dignity, and works for justice through direct service, formation, advocacy and systemic change.

The Human Concerns Commission of the Cathedral's Parish Council participates in the following outreach ministries:

The Open Door Cafe
    Meal Program for neighbors in need; transportation assistance for medical appointments; hygiene kits and socks; Women's Breakfast Club; Hike for Hunger; Helen Loftus Christmas party (in collaboration with St. Vincent de Paul Society).

Parish Health Ministry
    Monthly blood pressure screenings; annual flu shot clinics; Aging-The Opportunity of a Lifetime series; health consultation and advocacy; World Day of the Sick; Eucharist to the sick and homebound; bereavement ministry; GAMP fee funding.

St. Vincent de Paul Society (Cathedral/Old St. Mary Conference)
    Food vouchers for homeless and those in need; GAMP fee funding; Helen Loftus Christmas party (in collaboration with Open Door Cafe).

Housing Trust Fund Advocacy

Riverwest Food Pantry

AIDS Ministry

Prison Ministry
