SPARC

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist’s Ministry for Senior Adults is planned for Seniors ages 60 and older. It is called the SPARC program (Senior People are Really Cool!!!!!). The concept of the program is to gather our Senior Adults together to strengthen personal bonds with the Cathedral and to further our parish mission. This program is one where all members enjoy the company and friendship of others through religious, social, educational, and other activities.

SPARC Program Mission Statement

The intent of the program is to invite seniors in the community to come together to further the mission of the Cathedral, that is, to be a welcoming Eucharistic community committed to growing together as disciples of Jesus Christ. To serve as a beacon of faith and a haven and advocate for people who are poor and marginalized. To strengthen personal bonds with the Cathedral and with one another. This program is meant to be fun as well, where all members enjoy the company and friendship of others. We do envision a program with religious activities, social activities, and with an educational component supported by invited guest speakers.

General Information

SPARC made its debut in September, 2015 and has been gathering strength since then. Gatherings are held in the Cathedral Atrium on the third Wednesday of each month. A luncheon is planned for each meeting for which there is no charge. A Free Will Offering is greatly appreciated, but not necessary. Luncheon is served at 12:45 pm followed by a presentation by invited speakers or just plain fun stuff to do. We wrap up about 2:30 pm in order to avoid the difficult parking situation around the Cathedral. Day trips in and around the city are also planned throughout the year.

For further information about this Ministry please contact Dr. Jenny Brasseur at brassyjenny@wi.rr.com.

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist invites you to the monthly gathering of SPARC to be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 12:45 pm in the Cathedral Atrium

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Our May 15th meeting will feature and spotlight the Milwaukee Brewers. We will hear about the Brewers business side by a presentation from Cecelia Gore, Executive Director of the Brewers Community Foundation. Her position entails community outreach activities. The Brewers are a good corporate neighbor and Cecelia will tell us how and why.

Our Brewer theme continues with a “ballpark” lunch, Brewer gifts, and other surprises. Attend and you may be a winner! Our meeting will end with a 7th Inning Stretch, including rousing renditions of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and “Beer Barrel Polka.”

Be there and be informed and entertained! There is a concert in the Cathedral on this day. The artist is Alan Hommerding on Organ. The concert begins at 12:15 PM, with luncheon and guest speaker immediately following.

Please do join us and bring a friend.  There is no charge for the luncheon. A Free Will Offering is gratefully appreciated. Reservations must be made to ensure your place at the table. Thank You. Please do RSVP by Monday, May 13 to Jim  at 414/276-9814, ext. 308 or via email: jimtrzebiatowski@stjohncathedral.org.

Please remember to include your name in the RSVP.
