The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist invites you to please join us for our monthly Women’s Spirituality Lunch/Discussion gathering led by Pat Wisialowski, Cathedral Pastoral Associate. Women's Spirituality is a group of women who meet monthly on the First Friday to enjoy intelligent conversations pertinent to current issues in the contemporary church and our world. Camaraderie, frequent special guests, lively discussions, networking and even luscious desserts are "perks" making this a most worthwhile way to spend a lunch hour. Cousins subs can be ordered for lunch. Come occasionally or come each month!
For more information, please contact Pat Wisialowski, Pastoral Associate at firstname.lastname@example.org or 414-276-9814, ext. 302
Please join us for the next Women's Spirituality Meeting on Friday, October 4, 2019
Presenter: Carolyn Sweers
Carolyn Sweers is a Cathedral parishioner, a contemplative free-lance philosopher, author and teacher.
Was Jesus’s most important disciple a woman? In her book, The Meaning of Mary Magdalene, Cynthia Bourgeault answers with a convincing “yes”. She cites extensive scholarship to make the point that Mary Magdalene was “first among the apostles” because she, more than the men, understood the fullness of Jesus’s message which was about personal transformation and the motivating power of love. In this session, we will encounter Bourgeault’s argument as well as scholarly theories of how the Church has marginalized and distorted who Mary was. Selections from an early Christian writing, The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, will provide material for meditation on the mystic teachings of Jesus, as Mary understood them.
Please join us and invite your friends. Please RSVP by 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 to Jim at JimTrzebiatowski@stjohncathedral.org or 414/276-9814 ext. 308. Please include your name with your RSVP. Thank you. If you are interested in ordering a sandwich from Cousins Subs, please call or email for more information (price is $8.00 each).
